Best thing to do is go afk as a monk while having a "LFG" in the party search window. classic.

So... this thread is complaining about not being able to pug? pugs are bad, take heroes. Hell, even henchies beat pugs, especially in EotN.

I personally prefer to go AFK Atlantic rather then pacific...
(sorry could not resist, highly uncalled for)
About the only time i go afk is in the guild hall, or the next town I intend to leave from. But if Im looking for an empty, quiet area, then I like places like maguuma staid. Never a soul there. And since I usually run in international, (therefor the preferance of atlantic instead of pacific) most places are pritty much deserted.

I usually turn the game off rather than afk. If im running out for a quick smoke break ill afk in any town im in. I only afk missions/dungeon with guildies or alliance after asking first. Now if my kids are in an emergency ill afk anywhere at any moment.

After a couple minutes of inactivity there should be a scripted announcement in team chat to let everyone know that "player X is being marked as away" or something. That will help with players who forget to type "afk".

I only go afk when I am going to get a drink, bathroom break or I am needed away from the PC. I never go AFK during a mission or quest if I am in a group. (unless ofcourse something pressing happens with my family in which case forget the game)
I rarely ever party with players so I never stress waiting for any profession, I simply grab my Heroes and Henchies and complete the mission or quest I'm on.
I turn local chat off, and I put my "Away" status on to let anyone messaging me know I'm AFK.
I have a Monk to build, and once its done it will be my group character when I am not fow/uw ecto farming. I just need to learn how to play a healer monk correctly before I attempt the harder missions.
But as I said in other threads, My hero monks normally do a better job of keeping my group alive than any player monk I'v ever grouped with. Next time your group is waiting in frustration for a monk player, just grab your monk hero with a solid healer/protection/anti hex/condition build and play the mission.
You can fail a thousand times, but you only need to succeed once. Hero Monks normally allow you to skip the thousand failures. The only way a hero monk fails to do its job is if the player sets its skills up wrong, Or the group does not respect the energy management of the hero monk, or the casting range. Either way its not the hero, its the players.

Don't know about you guys but I have to pay for electricity. If I have something to do that takes more then 30 minutes I'll log off and shutdown the comp.
If it is only a short break for bathroom and stuff I turn off local and trade chat to see PMs when I return.
Makes no sense to me to show off fancy titles and dance somewhere for hours, even more pathetic to do it with a festival hat or chaos gloves on (and if that char is even a naked Warrior the controlling player deserves the Clown Award). . It is neither cool nor impressive. Whoever told you that was wrong.
If you want to be online while afk to "farm" /age do it in your GH.
As for me...every minute my /age shows was a minute I played the game.
